Welsh Government challenged over Denbighshire wind farm planning approval

Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar has challenged the Welsh Government for granting planning permission for a wind turbine in Denbighshire against the advice of the planning inspectorate.

Speaking in the Senedd last week, Darren said constituents in the Nantglyn area are concerned by the decision by Welsh Ministers to approve the Pant y Maen wind turbine farm in Denbighshire.

He said:

“I've been contacted by many constituents in the Nantglyn area of Denbighshire, who are concerned about a decision to approve the Pant y Maen wind turbine farm by Welsh Ministers, in spite of this being against the advice of the planning inspectorate and against the decision of local councillors, which refused the application in the first place.

“There's been scant explanation, frankly, from Welsh Ministers as to why they gave this development the green light. It’s unacceptable and I think that my constituents are owed an explanation as to precisely why the inspectors' recommendation to Ministers has not been taken forward. We need a Statement from the Welsh Government.”

Leader of the House, Julie James said it wouldn’t be “appropriate to have a statement about an individual planning issue”, and told Darren to instead write directly to the Minister to get the answers for his constituents.
