Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar joined people directly affected by dementia on the Mobile Virtual Dementia Tour Bus when it arrived in Abergele last week.
Dementia Friendly Abergele, with the help of Co-op, Tesco, The Harp Inn, Welsh Church Fund, Abergele Town Council and donations, raised £3,420 to bring the bus to Abergele for three days and were able to offer 108 fully funded places to people directly affected by Dementia.
The bus is specifically designed to improve people’s understanding of dementia and is unlike any training course.
“When a person gets a diagnosis of Dementia, those around them get the diagnosis too. They go through all the worry, upset and fear as well.
“The Virtual Tour Bus gives people a window into the world of people living with dementia.
“It is a fantastic facility and can help those who are caring for someone with dementia to get a better concept of how it feels, then they may be more understanding, more patient, more caring, more considerate and feel more able to care for their loved one.
“I was extremely pleased to be given the opportunity to experience the tour bus and would like to thank Dementia Friendly Abergele, and all those involved, in raising the funds to get it here.”
