Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar recently cut the cake at an event to mark the 100th anniversary of country markets.
Darren attended and spoke at the celebration at Rhos-on-Sea Country Market, which is part of the Denbighshire Country Market Society made up of five markets – Denbigh, Llangollen, Ruthin, Wrexham and Rhos on Sea.
Country Markets has a network of over 450 small, local markets that take place all over England and Wales on different days of the week.
The Rhos-on-Sea Country Market meets every week at the village’s United Reform Church on St George’s Road and sells a whole host of goods including farm produce, plants and flowers, crafts, gifts and homemade cakes.
They celebrated 100 years of Country Markets with a cake cutting ceremony, which was homemade by one of the members of the committee. They also had a scrapbook full of pictures of all their old events and competitions that they had competed in.
“After being set up several years ago, the Rhos-on-sea market has gone from strength to strength and now has a number of regular visitors who prefer the market’s local feel as opposed to visiting the high-street or supermarket.
“I have dropped in a few times over the years and I am always extremely impressed by the array of goods on offer and always enjoy a slice of their delicious homemade cakes.
“I would urge anyone who hasn’t already been to the market to put it on their list of places to visit, I can guarantee they won’t be disappointed.”
Rhos-on-Sea Country Market meets every Friday morning at the United Reform Church between 10am and 12pm.
