AM backs tidal lagoon plans for North Wales

Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has backed plans for a tidal lagoon on the North Wales coast

North Wales Tidal Energy is doing a feasibility study into a 22-mile lagoon between Llandudno and Prestatyn, which could boost the local economy by £11bn and create 20,000 jobs.

A Glyndwr University report says the £7bn lagoon could provide electricity to more than a million homes.

Welcoming the scheme Darren said it would "provide a huge economic boost to the region".

He said:

“I fully support efforts to develop a tidal lagoon off the North Wales coast.

“Not only would such a project help to meet Wales’ future energy needs and offer flood protection for thousands of homes and businesses, but it would also provide a huge economic boost to the region with tens of thousands of jobs being created both during the construction phase and afterwards as a result of new marine leisure and sea farming opportunities.”
